“Walked Away – Long Ago”

Love walked away 9 months ago, before we could conceive a child,
Flew, ran, poof, gone, long ago before we could say our wedding vows,
It left her heart as she let go of it, as the way she breathes in and out the air,
She tried, we tried, to breathe it back in, but there was nothing – it was no longer there,
Love sometimes goes away, but this time it walked,
Not enough compromising, understanding, patience, and respect to nourish any of loves true thoughts,
Come back, come back, an immediate panic, many nights filled with emotional cries,
To let go of love at this point in life would surely change and affect our lives,
I needed love to back me up, to lean on, and always care,
She needed love to protect her from many things her heart despaired,
Provoking, pushing, arguing, many frustrating days and nights,
Now they all have boiled and come down to a walk of memories created together throughout our life,
Walked away long ago, she began a war within herself,
She feels the need to fight the love that she always vowed would be for no one else,
With feelings so strong and his heart crying to no ends,
He sees that she is fighting his love, their love, and wonders how his heart will ever mend,
When life threw him curves, he always knew he would walk straight,
Through all good times and bad he made some honest mistakes,
Love keeps no count or tally of your wrongs,
She kept them silently in her heart against him and watched them all pile on,
Never forgiving for the past, she continued to walk thinking she did,
Till he made one mistake too many that makes her feel empowered and he the fruit she now forbids,
See a mistake can take two people, and she doesn’t feel that way,
For her contributions to this are invalid, and all fingers point his way,
Love sick I am, empty and so somber at times,
Missing the touching, the feeling, the belonging to a love that was supposed to be all mine,
Watching love walk away now and realizing maybe it did long ago,
Not having another chance to see love prosper, but instead now watch love let go,
There is a lady outside staring into the sky,
I see her mouth moving slowly as the tears fall from her eyes,
She lost her husband and it has been two years since he died,
On his way home to her a car crash ended both their lives,
She mourns daily, yet understands the value in love and death just the same,
She has accepted that God has called her husband home and in her heart he forever remains,
Living with the pain, to endure it for years,
For in that pain lies many joys, decent  – comforting memories that wipe away her fears,
To have one more walk, to never let go,
One more touch, kiss, a voice of hello,
Now every moment that passes walks away as love did long ago.
